Black Breasted Red Aseel Chicken

Noted for their intelligence, pugnacious temperament, and regal appearance, the Black Breasted Red Aseel chicken is sure to stand out in any yard. Due to their territorial nature, they require plenty of space to roam. The hens are excellent mothers, displaying strong protective instincts for their chicks. With their tight feathers, they appear heavier than they actually are. This breed, often referred to as Asil in the oriental game fowl community, is standardized as Aseel by the American Poultry Association.

Production: Aseel chickens lay brown eggs seasonally. The hens are good layers and take on the role of protective mothers effectively.

Temperament: Developed originally as fighting birds, Aseel chickens tend to be aggressive towards other chickens. However, they are intelligent and friendly with their owners.

History: This breed has a rich history, having been developed in Pakistan and India thousands of years ago for fighting purposes. It was recognized in England by 1846 and first exhibited in the United States in 1887. Purely Poultry offers the Reza-type Asil chicken, which is a blend of several strains, including Sonatol, Rampur, and Atkinson.

Color Description: These birds typically exhibit a dark red color with a black breast.

Livestock Conservancy Status: Watch

Body Type: The Aseel chicken has a very upright posture, with a compact body and a drooping tail. Their musculature is solid and well-defined, featuring broad shoulders. They possess small combs and rudimentary wattles. The beak is broad and strong, and they feel solid to the touch.
