American Gamefowl for Sale
American Gamefowl originated from various European and Oriental breeds introduced to the United States by our ancestors. These birds were specifically bred for cockfighting, which has significantly shaped their lineage. While cockfighting is an important part of our heritage, similar to traditions in many cultures worldwide, recent legal changes have increased the popularity of these beautiful birds as ornamental or show fowl.
Organizations such as the American Gamefowl Society establish standards for showcasing these birds, much like the American Poultry Association (APA) does. Many breeders are now focusing on raising Gamefowl for exhibition rather than for fighting, while still preserving the gameness that defines them.
American Gamefowl are categorized into various strains, which differ from most other fowl. Some of the more well-known strains include Hatch, Kelso, Albany, Sweater, Whitehackle, Claret, Roundhead, and Butcher. The names of these strains are often derived from individuals who excelled in the pits and developed their own birds through selective breeding.
